Seaside is one of 30A’s most iconic communities. Not only is it where the popular movie The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey with musical score by legendary Phillip Glass was filmed, but it is also one of the first modern urban communities on the Gulf Coast (and it serves as a true testament to this community-driven micro-city model). 30A Songwriters Festival, January 2022
The annual 30A Songwriters Festival is an absolutely decadent explosion of talent on 30A. The festival runs from January 14 – 22, 2022 and features a dynamic lineup. Headliners include Emmylou Harris, Brothers of a Feather featuring Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes, Mavis Staples, Dawes, Jenny Lewis, and Rickie Lee Jones.
The event, which benefits the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, has other artists listed on the website with more to come soon. Tickets can be purchased here. You can also follow the event on Spotify, Instagram, and other social media outlets.
Seaside Taste of the Race, February 2022
Calling all foodies! Preceding the Seaside Half Marathon is the Seaside Taste of the Race. This delightful tasting event also goes to benefit the Seaside School. Hosted February 18, 2022 at the Seaside Lyceum, the event features culinary delights and beverages provided by the Gulf Coast’s top chefs. Attendees get to indulge in the different foods provided by over 20 competing local chefs. The winner of the event gets the coveted Chef’s Choice Award.
The event has two ticket-types: VIP and general admission. VIP attendees from 6 PM to 9 PM and get to meet former Atlanta Braves pitcher and MLB Hall of Famer, Tom Glavine. They’ll sample appetizers, fine wine, craft cocktails and local beers along with a VIP gift bag before gaining access to the general tasting.
The general tasting allows entry to sample local fare by the competing local chefs as described above. Complimentary fine wine, craft spirits and craft beer are provided as part of the event.
Seaside Half Marathon, February 2022
The 20th annual Seaside Half Marathon will be held in-person for 2022. After a year of virtual racing in 2021 to protect all parties involved, everyone is thrilled that this beloved event will return to the streets of 30A for the benefit of the Seaside School.
The event officially takes place on Sunday, February 20, 2022 starting at 7 AM. The previous day, February 19, runners and family and friends attend the popular race expo to pick up race packets and to shop with and to visit local vendors.
If you can’t run a half marathon, not to worry…there’s also a 5K version of this picturesque run. Runners can also still be virtual if need be. Runners get lots of perks (other than the beautifully scenic view of their run as well as the satisfaction of helping support the school). They also get a free Vera Bradley tote, a race tee-shirt design by artist Bill Gaffrey, a customized playlist for the race, a unique finisher medal, a complimentary training program, and a virtual goody bag full of surprises.
Seaside Seeing Red Wine Festival, November 2022
Slated to make a triumphant return after respectfully canceling in the interest of protecting the greater good, the Seaside Seeing Red Wine Festival, a popular annual event, is due to return in November 2022. The specific dates are currently TBD, but it’s worth watching the website for details as this is one of the area’s most popular and beloved events.
Further, while nothing has been specified, it’s possible that the Seeing Red Wine Festival will tie into a second year (not yet to be announced) of the Seaside Restaurant Week. November 1-14 of 2021 signified the inaugural launch of this exciting Epcot International-inspired event, so hopes are high that it, too, will return.
Seaside Farmers Market, Saturdays from January through December 2022
One of the most enjoyable to-dos on 30A is the Seaside Farmers Market. The market runs from 9 AM to 1 PM every Saturday year-round. The market features fresh, local produce, artisanal goods like butters, jams, pickles, soaps, lotions, breads, herb blends, and so much more.
